Fall Fair Pageant - 2011

We are sponsoring Hannah Allen, the granddaughter of one of our former members - Mabel Allen.  Mabel passed away in 2009.  We are delighted to be Hannah's sponsor for this year's Fall Fair Pageant.

We've just had the presentation of all the candidates.  Here are some of the pictures:

This is Hannah Allen and president Margaret Houben.

All the candidates and their sponsors standing behind them.  Hannah is the third from the left.

All the candidates, as well as the 2010 royalty, in their aprons.

The aprons were auctioned off, with the proceeds going to the pageant committee to help pay for the many upcoming events that the girls will be taking part in.

These 3 picture were taken by Dianne Pecor, as I was busy acting as the "sponsor".  Thanks, Dianne!

Prayer Requests coming from the Spring Interim Meeting

There are several prayers we are asked to pray.

The first is a short, simple prayer for the unborn children in danger of being aborted.  The prayer was written by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen.
The cards we were given read as follows:

Please spiritually adopt an unborn baby.  Every day over 4,000 babies are killed by abortion.  They have so little protection, only the hand of God can end this massacre.  Prayer is the best weapon to help them - the most effective.
Say this prayer every day for nine months to save a baby's life!
"Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much.  I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion."
Please pray!  This baby is counting on you.

Another prayer that was requested is for the Canadian Troops who are in foreign lands.  This prayer was written by Terri McPherson of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, in 2003.

Father God, protect our troops, our favoured sons and daughters, keeping peace in foreign lands and sailing distant waters.  Here, beneath the northern sky, from shore to glorious shore, we're praying for their safely as they face the threat of war.  Grant them wisdom and courage for the perilous job they do, and in support of her troops, keep Canada strong and true.  Guide and guard our forces, Lord. Lead them - each step of the way.  Bless and keep their families.  Bring them safely home to stay.

And the third prayer is for the Diocesan Convention coming up in May.

Father, may everything we do begin with Your inspiration, as we prepare for the 64th Annual CWL Diocesan Convention.  Through the intercession of our patroness, Our Lady of Good Counsel, we ask that our Diocesan president and executive be guided in all their decisions by the wisdom of the Holy Spirit as they travel unfamiliar paths and are met by challenging decisions.  We ask for Your continued blessings on all members of the Catholic Women's League, in whatever capacity they serve, as they all strive to fulfill the League's motto, "For God and Canada".  We ask this through Jesus Christ, Your Son.  Amen.

Feb 18 2011 Spring Interim Meeting

Two members of the Lower North Thompson CWL attended the Diocesan Spring Interim Meeting on February 18.  President, Margaret Houben, and Secretary/Treasurer, Dianne Pecor, car-pooled for the trip to Cache Creek.
It was a very VERY cold and windy day, and although it did snow a little, it was very powdery and blew right off the roads.
In the morning was the executive meeting, followed by Mass and then a delicious lunch.  The lunch was italian buns with hot dogs, chili, salad and veggie trays, with all sorts of condiments, dips and dressings, fruit and sweets.  The following pictures are of the lunch.

After lunch I snuck back to the chapel quickly to take a picture of the statue there.  The two pictures are taken with different camera settings.

After lunch the general meeting took place, starting and ending with the bible enthronement.  I like how they do this ceremony at every general meeting.  I think as a council, we should make a bit more ceremony when lighting the candle at our meetings... not just lighting it and starting right into the meeting, but saying a prayer while lighting it... or something of that nature......
Anyways, here are the pictures taken during the general meeting.
